16th year of an international competition for young pianists
Broumovská Klávesa is an international competition for young pianists up to the age of 17 (inclusive). The 16th edition will take place from April 24 to 26, 2026, in the national cultural heritage site of the Broumov Monastery. The Laureates’ Concert in Prague, a traditional part of the competition, is planned for autumn 2026. The Artistic Director of the competition is the pianist Ivo Kahánek. The competition consists of one round and is held in four categories. Over the past five years, more than 300 participants from the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Hungary, France, Vietnam, and Ukraine have taken part in the competition.
The competition provides an excellent platform for international comparison of young pianists at a crucial stage of their artistic development (up to the age of 17). In this respect, it is one of very few events of its kind in the Czech Republic. It fulfills the idea of cross-border cooperation with neighboring countries, reflected in the strong representation of both participants and jury members from abroad. Each year, the competition serves as a mirror of Czech music pedagogy and indirectly highlights areas where further development is needed. It introduces the most outstanding young talents to prominent figures of classical music who may support them in the future development of their artistic careers. The entire concept is based on the well-established system of children’s music education and the long-standing tradition of youth competitions in the Czech Republic. Young musicians gain not only the opportunity for international comparison but also direct contact with leading Czech and international piano artists and representatives of key music institutions.

You can visit guided tours of the monastery, have a pleasant walk in the monastery garden, have a rest in a new monastery restaurant U Tří růží or in the Café Dientzenhofer, pleasant and inspiring place situated in the area of the former monastic grammar school.
So far there were fourteen successfully organized years of the competition. The year 2015 returned after two years into the area of the Broumov Monastery, which is currently newly revitalized (part of the building and garden).
The competition takes place in the new Dřevník multifunctional hall in the monastery garden, which has very favorable acoustic conditions and facilities for the organization. Plenty of practice classes are offered by the monastery halls, which are equipped with pianos and grand pianos. The monastery also offers accommodation for competitors in renovated monastic cells called the Guest House. The rooms are located directly in the monastery complex, so there is no need to leave the Broumov monastery at all, when moving to the competition hall or training rooms. The partner of the competition is the Petrof piano company, providing a concert piano and a practice pianos.
In addition to financial prizes, the best participants in the individual categories also receive a concert award, which is motivating and of great importance in their solo development. Traditionally, the competition offers finalists the opportunity to perform on one of the most prestigious concert stages in the country, the finalists of recent years had their Gala Concert of Laureates in the Suk Hall of the Prague Rudolfinum. The gala concert became an integral part of the competition. Other concert awards for the winners are the opportunity to perform at the Za poklady Broumovska festival, which offers performances to a selected laureate in support of the young generation and within the season of the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Mariánské lázně, where the selected laureate performs solo with the orchestra.
